Statement of Purposes

1: To discuss and act upon any matter which effects the best interests of members of the Federation and the community they seek to serve.

2: To promote the continuation and development of the micro and alternate financial services industry.

3: To promote and protect the rights and interests of customers of the micro and alternate financial services industry.

4: To formulate and publish, from time to time, appropriate codes of practice whereby the transaction of micro and alternate financial services business may be promoted and managed in a beneficial and ethical manner throughout Australia.

5: To maintain continuing communication with government, both State and Federal to promote the interests of the micro and alternate financial services industry and its customers.

6: To maintain continuing communication with the banking and general finance industry in an effort to preserve the integrity of the micro and alternate financial services industry.

7: To take all reasonable steps to ensure that customers understand the services being offered, the conditions of such and the charges involved, to enable them to make an informed choice before entering into any transaction.

8: To maintain constant vigilance against fraud and report any suspected fraudulent activity to the relevant authorities, at the earliest possible opportunity.

9: To assist in earning the confidence of new and existing customers in their dealings with members of the Federation.

10: To discourage any practice which may assist the criminal element in the exercise of their fraudulent and other criminal activities.

11: To discourage the employment of any practice, by members of the Federation, which may lead to vulnerable members of the community creating a personal or business debt trap for themselves.
